Korkut Onaran, Ph.D.

President

Korkut Onaran, Ph.D., a principal with Wolff Lyon Architects in Boulder, is an architect specializing in new urban development and codes and regulations. An assistant professor adjunct at the University of Colorado, in 2007 he received the American Institute of Architects’ Colorado North Chapter Mentor of the Year Award. Onaran has won numerous prizes in architectural competitions in his native Turkey and for his poetry, which has been published in many journals. He is President of the CNU Colorado and the editor of The Colorado Urbanist.

John is an Urban Designer/ Registered Landscape Architect and the owner of Olson Planning & Urban Landscapes in Colorado Springs.  He is a LEED Accredited Professional and Accredited by the Congress for the New Urbanism.  He is an active citizen in Colorado Springs where he serves as the Vice-Chair of the Urban Renewal Authority, a board member of the Downtown Review Board and the President of his Townhome Owners Association in the DPZ-designed Neo-traditional neighborhood, Spring Creek.  John was an active stakeholder in the creation of the Colorado Springs Downtown Form-Based Code.

Cheney is an Urban Designer at Van Meter Williams Pollack.  She joined the CNU-Colorado Board following her role as Project Chair and contributing author for the Regional Projects book for CNU 17: Colorado Urbanizing. Cheney also serves on the local USGBC chapter LEED-ND subcommittee. She lives in the "old" urbanist neighborhood of Capitol Hill, but practices new urbanist principles everyday by biking or busing to work, walking to nightlife and restaurants, and living in an accessory dwelling unit!  Cheney enjoys traveling, snowboarding, hiking and playing guitar.
